November 2020 - Press release Kisling & Ferrari

Almost invisible bonding of Carbon Parts
The new 2K-Epoxy Adhesive ergo 7440

The requirements for bonding of carbon parts are getting more and more demanding. Kisling, a swiss based manufacturer of adhesives, has developed a new 2K-Epoxy, to improve the bonding performance for a variety of applications in the automotive industry. Thanks to some exceptional characteristics of the ergo.® 7440 the Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari was able to solve a current adhesive issue for a new automobile development.

2K-Epoxy Adhesive ergo 7440
Almost invisible composite bonding – no BLRT
The issue to be solved was to remove the bond line read through (BLRT). Due to the low shrinkage capabilities of the ergo 7440 this primary requirement has been met to full satisfaction. The additional benefit of having an almost invisible glue line was accomplished due to the black colour of this Epoxy adhesive.

High temperature resistance
Another requirement was the permanent temperature resistance of 180 ° C. This performance criteria had to be proven proven by a 2000 hour test. As can be seen from the graphic below, the Kisling ergo 7440 adhesive provides exceptionally high bonding strength after 2000 hours of testing at 200 ° C.

Defined bonding gap
A defined bonding gap is ensured by additives incorporated in this Epoxy adhesive. This feature avoids contact corrosion in metal-carbon connections.

Long open time – fast handling strength
A processing time of 40 minutes ensures that there is enough time for the bonding process, even with high ambient temperatures during summertime. Additionally, the ergo 7440 delivers a fast build-up of handling strength after 3,5 hours. This fast handling strength allows quick turnaround times in production.
The ergo.® product portfolio offers a variety of high performing structural adhesives. The Kisling experts will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
